Things I Learned

  This is a list of some of the things I have learned during my life.

  1. 1.    Read and follow the instructions.

    2.      Humans cannot keep a secret.

    3.      Secrets are yours to keep.

    4.      Try, try again.

    5.      Learn how to negotiate.

    6.      Barter works.

    7.      Anger rarely serves a purpose.

    8.      Create.

    9.      You can fix it.

    10.  Borrowing money is only necessary when you have not saved enough.

    11.  Know the difference between need and want.

    12.  Buy low, sell high.

    13.  Write your story.

    14.  You may be the only one that thinks like you do.

    15.  Sometimes people don’t want to know that you know more than them.

    16.  You are the only one that knows what you are thinking.

    17.  You don’t know what others are thinking.

    18.  Actions will define who you are.

    19.  Humans lie.

    20.  Trust but verify.

    21.  Things are not always what they seem.

    22.  Take time to watch the sunset.

    23.  Take time to watch the sunset with someone.

    24.  Wake to watch the sunrise.

    25.  Humans like music.

    26.  Sing.

    27.  Dance.

    28.  Dance like no one is watching.

    29.  Be like trees in the wind; flexible and resilient.

    30.  Ask for help.

    31.  Learn speed reading.

    32.  Learn Morse code as a family.

    33.  Your group is only as fast as its slowest member.

    34.  Run for exercise pretending that you must sprint away from something and then continue running for your distance.

    35.  Learn about codes and cyphers.

    36.  Learn more math.

    37.  Learn how things work.

    38.  Process, process, process.

    39.  In God we trust. All others bring data.

    41.  If you work for someone, give them their money’s worth.

    42.  Learn to sleep.

    43.  Laugh often.

    44.  Watch your weight. Stay fit.

    45.  Exercise often. Stay fit.

    46.  Eat a varied diet. Stay fit.

    47.  Practice playing a musical instrument.

    48.  Notice nature.

    49.  Organize.

    50.  Keep chargers handy.

    51.  Read the classics.

    52.  Poetry isn’t for everybody.

    53.  Make friends and nurture your friendships.

    54.  Humans are basically good.

    55.  Mobs should be avoided.

    56.  Learn to think about “line of sight” as a protection.

    57.  Always carry a knife.

    58.  Learn to sharpen tools.

    59.  Maintenance, maintenance, maintenance.

    60.  Clean what is most distasteful first.

    61.  Organized storage is better than displays.

    62.  Don’t panic.

    63.  Acknowledge that you are scared and use the adrenaline it creates to your best advantage.

    118.                      Shaving frequently will thicken the hair in the area you shave.

    119.                      Keep your nose clean.

    120.                      Sometimes being quiet will make you smarter.

    121.                      Use first aid for small cuts and abrasions.

    122.                      Practice estimating distances.

    123.                      Practice estimating crowd size.

    124.                      Call your best friend.

    125.                      Praying never hurts.

    126.                      Time only flows one way.

    127.                      Feel the music.

    128.                      Look up at night.

    129.                      Know where you are.

    130.                      Study maps in areas you frequent.

    131.                      Learn to use a compass to navigate on foot.

    132.                      Don’t lie to yourself.

    133.                      You can change.

    134.                      Time is something you will never have enough of.

    135.                      Spoken words can cause people to use emotions.

    136.                      Learn to defend yourself without lethality.

    137.                      Know how to be lethal.

    138.                      Think before you speak.

    139.                      Empathy prevents you from being mean.

    140.                      The less you say, the more people listen.
